“A Day in My Life as a Freelancer”
Have you ever wondered what a freelancer really does all day? People think we just sit in pajamas and scroll on our phones. Well, sometimes that’s true. But most days are a mix of work, fun, stress, snacks, and more work.
Let me take you through one of my days. I’ll keep it real.
7:30 AM — My Alarm and I Argue
My alarm rings. I ignore it. It rings again. I argue with myself for five minutes. Then I finally get up because, well, rent exists.
I start the day with coffee. Not because I’m fancy — but because without it, I’m basically a sleepy potato.
8:00 AM — Check Emails and Stretch the Truth
I check my email inbox. It’s a mix of client messages, project updates, and that one “urgent” email from a week ago.
Sometimes I reply right away. Sometimes I stare at the screen and think, Can this reply wait until I’ve had breakfast? The answer is yes. Always yes.
9:00 AM — Planning Like a Pro (Kinda)
I write a to-do list. I plan my work for the day. This makes me feel organized, even though I know I’ll probably change it five times.
I use sticky notes. I love sticky notes. They make me feel like a boss, even when my cat eats one.
10:00 AM — Real Work Begins
Now it’s time to work on client projects. I write, design, or edit — depending on what my clients need that day.
I put on headphones and play music. It helps me focus. Unless it’s a catchy song. Then I dance a little. Then I remember I have a deadline. Back to work.
12:30 PM — Lunch and Maybe a Nap
Lunch is usually fast. Sandwich. Noodles. Leftovers. Whatever is easy.
Sometimes, if I’m ahead on work, I sneak in a power nap. Just 20 minutes. Okay, maybe 30. Okay, fine — an hour. Don’t tell anyone.
2:00 PM — More Work, More Coffee
Back to work. I answer client questions. I send files. I check my list to see what’s left.
Around this time, I drink my second cup of coffee. Or third. Let’s not count, okay?
4:00 PM — Small Break and Big Ideas
I take a break. Maybe a walk. Maybe a scroll through social media. Maybe both at the same time (not recommended).
Sometimes, I get my best ideas during breaks. That’s the magic of stepping away for a bit.
5:00 PM — Wrap Up and Double-Check
I check my work again. I fix any small mistakes. I send everything to my clients. I always double-check before sending. Triple-check, actually. Once, I sent a file named “final_FINAL_realfinal_v2.” I’ve learned since then.
6:00 PM — Done for the Day (Almost)
Work is done. Sort of. Sometimes a client sends a message at 6:01 PM. I try to set boundaries, but let’s be honest — sometimes I reply anyway.
Still, I try to end work by evening. I need time to relax, eat, and watch cat videos. (For research, of course.)
Final Thoughts
Freelancing is not always easy. But it gives me freedom. I get to choose my projects. I get to work from home. And yes, I sometimes get to nap in the middle of the day.
Every day is different. Some are quiet. Some are busy. But all of them are mine. And that’s the best part.
