"How I Started My Blog From Scratch"

I Had No Idea What I Was Doing

I didn’t have a plan. I didn’t even know what to write about. All I knew was that I liked writing and wanted to share my thoughts. I googled, “How to start a blog,” and ended up with 15 open tabs and a mild headache.

But I took one step at a time. And that’s what helped.

Step 1: Picking a Topic (Also Known As a “Niche”)

I asked myself, “What can I talk about without falling asleep?” For me, it was sharing tips, stories, and things I’ve learned. That became my blog’s topic.

Tip: Pick something you love. You’ll be writing about it a lot.

Step 2: Choosing a Blog Platform

I found out there are places where blogs live online. These are called platforms. Some are free (like Blogger), and some give you more control (like WordPress).

I chose WordPress. It looked simple and had lots of help online.

Tip: If you’re just starting, free is fine. You can switch later.

Step 3: Picking a Name for My Blog

This was harder than naming a pet. I wanted it to sound fun but also make sense. After writing 50 names on a piece of paper and crossing out 49, I finally picked one.

Tip: Choose a name that fits your topic and is easy to remember.

Step 4: Designing the Blog

Here’s where I panicked a little. I had no design skills. I didn’t know how to make things “pop.” But most platforms have ready-made designs called templates.

I chose a clean, simple one and changed the colors. Boom! Instant blog face.

Step 5: Writing My First Post

This was the fun part. I wrote like I was talking to a friend. I didn’t worry about sounding perfect. I just wanted to help someone like me — a beginner.

I hit “publish” and danced a little. Then panicked again and read my post 10 times to check for typos.

Step 6: Telling People About It

I shared my blog on social media and told friends. It felt weird at first, like I was yelling “Hey! Read this!” But people were kind, and a few even left comments.

That made my day.

Step 7: Sticking With It

At first, I was super excited. Then I got busy. Then lazy. Then I remembered why I started: to share and connect. So I made a simple plan — one post a week.

I kept it fun. I didn’t chase views. I just kept writing.

What I Learned

  • Start simple. You don’t need everything perfect.
  • Be yourself. Your voice matters.
  • Don’t give up. It gets easier with time.
  • Ask for help. The internet is full of kind people.

Starting my blog was messy, fun, and one of the best things I’ve ever done. If I can do it with zero skills and a coffee-stained keyboard, so can you.

So go ahead. Take that first step. Your blog is waiting.
